I was aware of the freeware version and did run it on first release - when it was in standard gauge configuration.Assuming Thomson don't lock things down too much, there is huge potential for other Swiss metre gauge projects arising from this, or even further afield with a little bit of artist licence. (With a stretch it could be used to represent a might have been modernized Yugoslavian narrow gauge or the electrified ng in Georgia (Bakuriani).
But in the first instance it will bring back happy memories of grinding round the curves and through spiral tunnels on the way up to St Moritz! Well, this has certainly peaked my interest, I was only watching my Glacier Express DVD last week.Mind you, the mountain and rock textures in this game just don't do anywhere justice, in my honest opinion, I was disappointed with the Austrian, Swiss, German and Italian routes that could have been reflected so much better with the proper assets, over the years, freeware and payware content, it's a huge shame, as the Alps and Dolomites just don't feel and look right to my photographs and memories in real life.
I'm sure Keith Ross and Thomsons will do a sterling effort, pity that DTG can't provide the proper tools for the job in their game, after all these years, they've had long enough to make changes, the draw distance is appalling compared to many other games, even the old ones that could also only be used on 32 bit systems, they obviously haven't got the staff, or, just not bothered.Cheerz. Having read the latest PR from DTG I have a slight alarm bell ringing now in that there is no reference to Chur. Does that mean the line is only going to run from Thusis to St Moritz? I can understand that Chur with its mainline station and SBB standard gauge would be a huge challenge but it should at least run to the junction at Reichenau and terminate there. Otherwise it's a bit like having Glasgow to Edinburgh start at Bishopbriggs! That's what I understand too after reading the announcement on the Thompson web side!
